Hi Adrian:
Nice picture you share! I like the composition of your shoot and the shadow on the face of your kid. Also the angle of the shoot is quite good! Gratz for all of this!
The only thing IMHO is that the picture could be a little bit sharper. While the DOF is good the face of your kid seems to has a blur effect on it. Try different apertures, increase your ISO or use a flash. Hope this tips help you!

You're on the right track with the lighting and the framing. While kids are going to do what kids do, if you could have gotten the gaze from a more sideways position, it would portray inner musing instead of "Look. Shoes." Above all, sharpness in the eyes at any cost. Extra lighting there would help.
