The other day, I was working in Greenwich, CT and brought my camera so I could take pictures during my down time.

Across the street was a flowering tree/large bush. I took the photo in the morning, because the lighting was better than later in the day.

I cropped the photo, added a Gaussian blur around the flower and played with the levels.

After I posted the photo to Flickr, I noticed that I blew out some of the highlights. What do you guys think?

I agree - the stamen and bottom right petal are far too bright. Saving the texture there would help considerably.

Otherwise - good contrast between the red / magenta center and the blue / green background. Maybe move the green leaf sticking in the flower out of the way next time?

Later day shooting, or earlier, all but eliminates the harsh white overload. You get interesting shadows then, too. This is comfortably framed. The blue, if subdued a little in saturation, would add rather than distract.
