There is just too much out of focus for me. The concept is great and the colors are very comilmentary. What were your settings and what equipment were you using?

I really like this shot, but there are a few things that I might have done differently.

I would have either tried to shoot at an angle that didnt include any other purple in the background, or just pp'ed it out.

The one thing I am arguing with myself about is whether I would focus right on the front edge of the flower or if I would have tried getting the DOF so the center of the bloom is focused leaving blurred edges.

Overall though I think its a great subject and great shot.

Such a wonderful frilly flower. I think I would crop it so as to have just the purple frilly goodness. Like maybe the lower 3/4 of the flower, square crop? This way full attention is on the subject.

I would get close up and personal with this plant - I'd try to bring out some of the detail of those petals - make more of a statement...

What equipment are you using?

Thanks for the comments, as to equipment, the camera is a Fujifilm S6000FD which I picked up last week and am still learning aka experimenting with, this shot was taken on Auto mode I believe and the settings where
ISO200
Shutter Speed 1/200
Apeture F3.6

I see what your saying with to much being out of focus so have cropped it as was suggested (I think)

OK - better - now imagine how much sharper it would have been if you had got that close with the camera

Default wish I had got closer

True enough closer would have been better, but the park workers would have got upset I suspect if I stepped in the garden so leaning over the fence to get this close was the best I could do
