Default New Orleans - French Quarter/Jackson Square

Hi everyone,

These are some shots that I'd like everyone to critique and let me know how they look. Also, please comment on what you think the image quality looks like, as I just got a new camera and I'd like to know how everyone else thinks it performs.

Thanks!
Terin

1st shot: not too sure what the subject is in that shot, the church in the background or the path. Crop the path if the church is the subject and vice versa.

2nd: its fine no real problem with it. Good shot.

3rd: same situation as the first, not too sure what the subject is.

4th: the bee and the flowers are the subject. Crop out everything else and you should be fine.

Overall, nothing horrible much, better than most people. Just work on your composition when it comes down to the subject of your photos.

Hope all that helps.

Hi terin5124!

Since you are asking how the camera performed, IMO I think it performed very well. The images are sharp and the exposure appears right. It is also capable of shooting blurred background as in picture #4. Unless you took the images using a tripod and the camera on a fully automatic mode, I think I should give the credit more to you than the camera, as it was your skills that made the images appear as such.

I agree with Sagelike 31 that you should focus more on composition or capturing on frame a main subject matter or point of focus.

I like best image #3. I just have some suggestions on how by my taste I would like to see it. I would have used the tree with its branches to frame the building by cropping out the top and the right hand side of the picture where only about 2/3 of the trunk is left and on the top leaving only the lowest most branch. This would also crop out what looks to me is a garbage container and the rest of the building and clutter at the right hand side of the image.

terin5124,
Welcome and Yea! on getting a new camera. Must be digital given the quality and size of the pics. Can't add to the technical side or admiration - they are fine photos. Agree with the pick-a-subject aspect, and would encourage you to take 20 -different- pictures of complex scenes. Move around, including up and down (the second shot's drama is the angle and light). Try early morning or evening. Go for people, parts of the architecture, wait for the bee to lift off the rose. Each shot is basically free, so shoot like everything would not exist tomorrow, then delete later as you wish.
My most disappointing shots are the ones I didn't take.
Good luck, and good shooting!
