Default Two for review

Please critique and let me know what I can do to improve. I know the horizon isn't parallel on the landscape. I didn't realize it until later that evening looking at the picture. I had set my camera on a wall to take it and I guess the wall wasn't quite level at that point.

To start with a negative point: I just don't like the 2nd. Too dark for me and on the right to many distracting things. But that is my opinion.

The first one is much better! Great light on the right. You might want to make the horizon straight or you will loose all the water The left side is to dark, I think I would crop a bit off from the left side.

PS: that is the 2nd time today..you already mentioned the horizon..note to myself: *read first, then comment*

I completely agree with Triglav. I also don't really like the second photograph, but it is also hard to say because I have to scroll around to view it. Perhaps in the future make your photos smaller so that scrolling isn't neccessary to view them.

The first one is beautiful although there are some weird colors / shapes / noise in the sunbeams in the center of the picture.
I like that the light is going from darker on the left side to brighter on the right one. Also the lightplay in the water looks beautiful.

1st one: 1/4000 and ISO-100 WOW!!! This must have been some sunny day for it to come out this way ... It looks nice but what bothers me a little is the fact that there's no subject per se; nothing that i'm looking at in particular (like a sail boat, lighthouse or something). Were you on a boat?
2nd one: Bit noisy at ISO 1600. Maybe slower shutter and lower ISO could have captured the mood better. I wonder if it would have looked better darker with just the sign, the lights and the wall reflecting the lights showing ???

Keep trying. The more you do the better you get at spotting what could otherwise be an interesting shot.

I think cropping would help both pictures. The first has the horizon line too close to the middle of the shot. Horizons, as a general rule, look better in the bottom or top third of a composition. That way you emphasize either the sky or the sea, perhaps using the light rays at the right of the shot as a kind of focal point.
The second pic seems to have too much going on on the right. Maybe just cropping to the sign would work. Usually simple is better. I often find I've put too much clutter into a shot, too. That's why I love the cropping tool!

I'll second what Sara said and add, it's crooked and needs to straightend out.

The first shot looks a lot like most of the shots i used to take of the water and the sky... - maybe add something to spice up the shot...

The reflecting lights on the window of the second shot i find distracting...am wondering what the purpose was for the shot?

Thanks for all the comments guys and gals. The purpose of the window shot was to get the dots to stand out on the lighted sign. I had taken a few pics prior where the light was too bright and you couldn't tell there were dots at all. These are both just practice shots as I'm trying to learn how to deal with different lighting situations being new to photography.
