A spider (a bit out of focus)

The other day I found a spider in my garden (a European garden spider). It had placed itself in front of a white fence. I put up my tripod and placed the camera as close as possible to the spider. Now and then there was some wind - so the spider was moving towards the lens (the lens and the spider almost collided). But I (and the spider) was lucky and I got this picture.

The picture was taken with a canon powershot s3is in "super macro mode" with aperture: f/3.2, shutter speed 1/100s.

1) My main concern is that not the entire spider is in focus. Is that a problem?

2) The DOF in super macro mode on an s3is is very narrow - is there anybody out there that can give advice on getting a wider DOF? I don’t know how the super macro mode is compared to macro and normal other than the minimum focus distance.

You have all the important bits in focus, so that's okay. The fence should be blurred more as the texture is distracting. And, I find it strange that you got the spider's belly instead of from the back (though, I guess that's how he was facing you.)

I'm not so brave - because we don’t have any deadly spiders in Denmark.
