Default which one do you think is better?

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to DPS even though I'm constantly reading new threads and posts. I just received my new Nikon, and this is the shot I liked most so far, but I can't seem to decide which one is better?

or this:

What do you think? All comments and critiques welcome

I like the B&W best - don’t ask me why?

It may be because the background colours don't distract me?

I too like the black and white. the reason why is the green background is blur but it distracts from the man. in the B&W the man clearly stands out.

I like the B/W too. I have recently gained a great amount of respect for B/W. It gives the image a sense of timelessness.

I think the color version has more contrast between the subject and the background. In the b&w one the color tends to blend and the white spots on the left distract more than they do in the color version.

i agree with melanie.. i think the colour is better... much better contrast
in the B&w one the bright parts in the backgorund are distracting..

Everytime I look at photos I see something different. This is what I think about when I look at these photos.

I look at the B&W one and I think, it's a man smoking a cigarette.

I look at the color one and I think, it's a man smoking a cigarette. And he's outside. And he has greying hair and a nice tan.

And that is why I like the color one better. Just thought I'd share.

i prefer the b&w pic. in it i see a man, smoking a cigarette, deep in thought, maybe feeling a little sad? i think the b&w pic lets you read more into the mood and feelings of the subject. i hope some1 knows what i mean!
