I really like this shot. I don't think the boat takes anything away from the shot. It is lined up nicely with the sun. I agree that the two dark clouds are a little distracting and out of place.

Thanks Rex. Much appreciated.
(I can tolerate these OK in August -- you might send me over the edge if you tried this in January though.) If you were monkeying around, what about cloning out the dock, and moving the boat over to the left a bit? I like the boat, but I don't think I like it right underneath the sun. EL

I think the alignment of the sun and boat works if the focal point is the boat. If this isn't what you wanted then yeah...it can be distracting.

yeah I would not be so cruel as to do something like this in the middle of winter. I was born up north too so I know how cold it can get. Strangely enough I actually miss the snow and all the things associated with winter time. I dont even think that people down here have ever seen snow. I said that to a local once and he said "yeah I have.. ice cream" :-/
Anyways about the photo you think I should clone out the pier completely and move the boat to the left side of the photo. kinda like it was out at sea instead of tied up for the day kinda thing? or should I use a different photo where the boat and sun are on the left and I can move the boat onto the right side of the frame so it will look like it is moving into the frame... I will experiment with this some more....
