The main thing that I can see is that the highlights are overexposed.

Good luck in your contest though.

a.saliga is right, you have some bright highlights there. I like the pose, but the washed out areas detract from your subject somewhat.

snapdragon,

Unless the guy is freshly sunburned, it's a little heavy on the red side. Good composition.

yes he was very red more wind burn than sunburned , the start of Lobster fishing .glad you like the comp Thanks ,is there any photo editing tips on how to tone down the highlights a tad ,I know over exposed is hard to deal with but this does not seem as bad in the larger print & it is for an amatuer comp so it may stand a chance .

snapdragon,

If you're allowed to edit for the contest, adding a copy layer that has been balanced toward green will take some of the red out, and some fiddly bits are cropped from the edges. A gradient mask puts emphasis on face and some contrast just adds a little more outdoor look. Best of luck in the competition.

It does look greenish to me too. I however don't like the composition that much. I myself find it hard to enjoy pictures that I can't see the person's eyes. Maybe it is just me, but this kind of pictures don't connect to me because I can't tell what the person is feeling. Unless of course something else in the picture gives that away (example a big smile, laugh, etc). It is all a case by case thing anyway.
Good luck! Cheers

Thanks ,glad it is not my monitor ,and I too like seeing the eyes , the windows to the soul , this photo was not a posed shot and even with out the sunglasses there would not have been eye contact ,he is camera shy and did not see me & my camera untill after the shot .
