Default sydney opera house

Hello folks
I'm a total noob when it comes to photography, but here's a shot of the opera house that I'm quite pleased with. It's such a familiar structure that it's recognisable from almost any angle. I wish that the patch of sky wasn't so bright but I've no idea how to fix it. A lot of my shots are overexposed, I'd like to blame the camera (finepix a510) but I think its my fault really!

Sorry if its a bit big, I'm still trying to work out this image manipulation stuff.

I like the lines in your picture. Very nice.
Too bad the upperleft is too bright and some tiles/windows are too bright too.

But the concept is very nice!

opps..you mentioned the brightness yourself..I am such a bad reader

whew, that's big!

one of the things i like with your shot is the original angle that you managed to use to capture an otherwise oft-shot landmark. you've managed to bring the detail of the structure to the viewer's attention. bravo!

i wonder how it would look like if the sky (and i'm not going into exposure here) had either less clouds, or no clouds at all.

Great angle for that shot. Definite potential.

If you have photoshop try this out for the overexposure:
http://www.photojojo.com/content/tut...ute-photo-fix/

If you don't try this:

DSLR: turn down the ISO and increase the shutter speed.

Point and Shoot: Use the sport function to get a faster shutter speed. Landscape also does the job as that the aperture will be closed in tight.

And of course if none of that works don't shoot directly in the sun and if you have to shoot in the sun wait till dusk or dawn.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Special thanks for those tips too sagelike.
I've experimented with the modes on the cam (night etc) but have never tried the sport mode. For some reason I thought it would only be useful for moving subjects.
cheers!
