I like both shots but it seems like there is so much dead space in the first shot behind the spoons.

Hey Traxnet, are you doing Lighting 102 over at Strobist?
They did an assignment last week on lighting tableware, and these are easily in the same ballpark as the best of the work that was posted in the assignment. EL
