Default Boathouse Row

The other night when I took this shot it was sweltering and there was lots of haze in the air. It came out better than I thought it would given the conditions. But I feel its a little dark. I used the smallest aperture and exposed it almost 2 minutes. I'm a big fan of long exposure so I use the smallest aperture to get the longest exposure. Its great to give the water a glassy effect. Though maybe this time I could have opened it up a little so the rest of the image could brighten up.

Also I wish I had a longer lens to tighten the shot as the lights to the left and right side of the frame distract a bit.

What do you think?

Yes that's a good idea. Even though I love night shots, I think a shot right before the sun goes down would make the water more interesting. Also there wouldn't be as much dead space like the sky if it had the colors of the setting sun in it. Hopefully I will still be able to get a long exposure as I think the glassy effect on the water would be even more interesting if it were filled with color.

Anyone else?

You might try duplicating the pic and then set your new layer to screen. It sometimes works well to light up a pic but dont really think thats the case here. I think the houses are too far away. If the pic as a whole were cropped in to foucus more on the row of buildings may help as well. I hope you dont mind but I went ahead and tried cropping it. Its a bit blurry now but I think you may see what I meant.

I think it is a great subject and I like the closer view much better.

@ windrider86
Nope don't mind at all. I agree that the shot is better framed up closer like that. I will definitely revisit this shot and try getting it closer.

Thanks for the input.
