It would have been better to have all of the first footstep in the frame. Also, it seems like the steps are leading me somewhere, but there's no payoff at the end. It need something at the top of the photo.

I agree with melanie, I'd like to see something at the top of the image, to see that the footprints lead somewhere. What would be really cool, is if you could get something in the shot that would tell you it's American footsteps on Iraqi soil without the need to mention that... Maybe an Iraqi city in the distance, or an American soldier? Both? I know that's probably not going to be easy to do, but that would make this shot much more dramatic imo.

Ha ha, the idea of futility is so well brought out in the shot, I enjoyed it (I risk getting crucified by Bush!). The photographs so aptly portrays that the steps lead to nowhere.

If you had not named the picture and did not talk about Americans and Iraq, I would kave liked a few more footmarks creating a diagonal line and a bit more contrast in the sands.

I am curious, were you there? Or is it just an interpretation?

nh7tn, Welcome

Having left my share of footprints on foreign soil, I appreciate your view. Sand is not easy, but time of day is going to help put drama to it. Late or early sunlight, touching the tops of tread imprints. Also maybe a shadow indicating . . . what? Going to, leading from, whose footprints? It's a rich idea.

thanks for the ideas. the footsteps really grabbed me when i was walking to work, and i would have liked them to lead somewhere interesting...but they weren't. just a portable bathroom... Hopefully I get more chances for a good shot as the summer goes on
