Default Bee-utiful Passions

This is another photo I took in the same set as Golden Afternoon. Again, Something seems lacking somewhere to me. Or am I being hypercritical of my own work? Either way, feedback is appreciated as well as processing and reposting! Thanks again!

Too many things the same size? Crop is tentative, like you thought you should, but didn't want to take too much. If you decided to feature bee, the whole flower reproductive apparatus could go, rotate photo so bee is pointed up and to the left. If that's a second bee, it should go, too. That would reduce your area by about 3/4, so bee will show much bigger when resized, and you'll still have some petals for color and interest (second to bee).

Thinking_Mommy,

If you knew you could do this with a $40 program, would you feel better or worse?

Bee-utifulX2

Because of the price attached to PhotoShop, I shopped around. Adobe PhotoDeluxe is pretty effective, easy to learn and use. But sort of difficult to translate to PS language. In these two edits, you can at least see what was changed or removed. Some of it is a result of layers, for instance darkening the outer leaves and then the petals. A vignette (darkening the outer edge) helps to focus attention on the subject. An overall dark mask can be applied, then erased where it covers the bees, making them stand out brighter.

Sometimes if you just squint at a photo, the parts that still draw your attention, other than the subject, need to be subdued, either darkening, cloning to another area, or covering with a texture. If this helps, and gets you a step closer to PhotoShopping, I wish you luck and hope you learn to enjoy post processing.
