I think it is interesting because it made me look at it for a few minutes.
But it is a bit too dark to my liking to be honest, so i voted Ok

I like the relatively bright one best. Is that a lantern hanging in a tent? The light creates an effect like striations in rock.

One thing you could do is crop it to a square, losing the right hand edge and pulling the focal point further away from the centre. Even without further changes, it is still an interesting shot.

The yahoo! version loses definitionin the dark edges. The flickr version does a better job but its still not there.

I like what you are trying to do here, though.

yes this is a picture of a lantern in a tent, taken from almost under the lantern :-)

I prefer the dark, original one most. It seems the most natural and also the most atmospheric.

I really like the shots peegee. Particularly the 'relatively bright one'. As wulf says, the patterns of light are reminiscent of the polished slices of agate that one sees in jewellers etc.
I think that the patterns of light would be a worthy focus in themselves, even without the lantern putting them into context.
