Blue on Blue

Took this photo just before lunch today from the beach under the New Brighton Pier. Very strong in the blues.

I say there is a way to much sky. No clouds, not nothing very interesting. Its not an attention-grabber.

That's it exactly. I was going for style over substance; a study in the colour blue juxtaposed with the yellow light shade and the diagonal slab of concrete.

I see what you were looking for. Perhaps less of the railing and focus on the light pole againstt he blue sky

I don't know if this works as well. It seems to be a little heavy to the left.
Cropping out the right side of the pole made it look really wrong.
Could probably get away with cropping out more above the light pole, though.

Shots like this work a lot better as a large print, where you can just sort of get lost in all the blue, than as a 500 x 750 jpg.

I think your instinct is right about the crop. You need a bit of something in the frame apart from the pole.

Imagine stepping a few feet forward so that pole becomes "shorter," railing is at less of angle but takes up half of photo, and lamp becomes even more of a graphic image?
