Question Night photography

I took this shot at Darling Harbour Sydney. some time ago with a Nikon Cool Pix 885 - just using an automated night setting. Any comments welcome - I think I was lucky it worked well without my interference.

But does ayone have any great advice for night photography with or with automated services? What works best for you? what's doesn't work with automatic settings? when do you choose to interfere?

many many things going on in this picture, hard to understand the subject without reading the title. but overall, stick to the automated setting, they usually know whats what. At least it knows for my pentax.

True, I had wondered about its busyness - but that is Darling Harbour at night. Guess I was attracted by the play of different colours and reflections on the water. And I am only just beginning again with new technology. Thanks for the honesty.

Technically its good... it looks "pretty"

On a composition basis, it works as well because of edge of the harbour zigzagging on a diagonal which leads the attention of the viewer, nice one!

I agree it's a bit busy but I think you did a good job with the lighting. Did you use a tripod?

Thanks for your comments. No I didn't use a tripod - just braced on a solid wall and held my breath!

What things do others focus their attention on for a night shot like this?
