Default Boat

I think I am getting a little better Thankyou all to your comments and effort in replying to my posts. I think this turned out pretty neat, but bow down to your opinions.

Don't know if it is us, but this is a lovely photograph. Good tones, nice warm light, and your depth of field is working well.

So, I am trying to decide whether the transition from orange to black adds interest or detracts -- the ripples on the black side add interest, but I wonder if they start to complicate the photo too much. Not a big deal, just wondering if I would try to get a couple of shots where the water was reflecting all orange, just for comparison.

Thanks Elay,

I only hope to be able to post pics as good as yours and all the others here.....

Here is the same shot, but from a different perspective. Very little orange, but more black. I don't know which one I like better, I find them both somewhat dramatic. It's like the orange one says "the boat is heading out into a happy ending", but the dark photo it almost says "we're heading into the perfect storm".... Is it just me, or is anyone else getting that feeling?

That black one is a little scary looking -- if it were me driving, I think I would turn the boat around pretty quick.

Also well done, but I'm a sucker for warm light like in your first.

ff151,

Is this a model tugboat? The wake is very small and it's so clean. Also the flag is very stiff. Good idea for experimenting in water shots.

Hi Jiminy,

Yes they are models, if you look in the first photo you can see the wire that supports the seagull. When you look at the second one, the dark water hides the wire which shows a flying seagull

With your and everyone elses help here I am slowly getting a little better.

I think the orange added to the photo. Thought it as a toy boat. Much easier to experiement that way though.....I really like both but the first seems to be more
of a story being told. Cruising out to sea asthe sun sets. Gives you the feeling its going to be a long stint at sea.
