Welcome.

I don't know that you have done anything wrong here. You do have a problem in that you shot some dark subjects (blackberries and foliage) pointing back toward a bright area. Your camera correctly chose its setting to expose the blackberries, but in so doing became incapable of handling the light from the sun which blew out all over the upper right of your photo (white stuff).

Good news -- for this photo there is an easy answer. Even leaving aside the blowout issue, I think the strongest part of your photo is the berries at lower left, the sharp black one especially. If you crop your photo around them, you simplify your composition, intensify the focus on those berries and get rid of your blowouts.

Just remember that your camera has trouble with big light variations -- in that kind of situation either the highlights will get blown out, or your shadows will go very dark. So if you were doing this again, you could try to shoot at an angle and perspective where you are not going right into the sun (appreciate that blackberry bushes tend to limit your shooting options.).

EL

PS -- Sign of the times: when I saw your title, I expected closeups of the controls of a PDA.

So funny! I thought the same thing!

I agree, the brightness of the top really distracts from the photo. If I scroll down far enough on my screen to hide the top half of the picture, it's much more pleasing to the eye. You should definitely try cropping and you'll end up with a great photo!

JamesM, Welcome

Space permitting, try to get above a cluster, or shoot towards the center of vine grouping. Also earlier in the morning, better Sun and with luck, some dew.
