I had a quick peek at the original, and my best guess is that what you are seeing is not noise or grain, but just the effect of the trees on the hills in the very background being filtered through haze. So yes haze is the problem I think. Nothing to do with the camera, though a polarizing filter can help cut the hazy look.
If you are doing post processing, one thing to try is local contrast enhancement to see if that gets rid of a bit of it. EL

First of all I really like the picture.
As you can notice the cars on the right are in focus, and the more you look at the cars on the left the more they are out of focus, including the haze as an extra. I'm not sure that the same picture on a sunny, hazy free moment of time, I do not think I would like the picture as much.
