Smile How to avoid glare?

I was out last night shooting some downtown shots. I was troubled alot with glare from the street lights. Any input on how to avoid this would be great. You can see the greenish glare in the center of this photo.

I believe a polarizing filter would help. But it might cause more harm than good as that it makes the shot darker. But you could also counter act that by setting a slower shutter speed.

However I never really worry about things like that because of photo shop. You can just take it out. Actually you don't even need Photoshop; GIMP or Paint.net can work also. If you need a tutorial on it let me know.

And of course if you don't want to try any of that switch up the angle you took the shot in the first place. All it may be is a one step to the left or right that might take care of it.

A neutral density filter may also help in that situation. It acts differently from a polarizing filter and lets you keep the lens open longer while letting in less light. Just another possibility.

Edit: I don't think a neutral density filter would help get rid of the green spots in the middle necessarily. Were you using any filters at the time where it might have caused the light to do something funny?

Just a UV filter I use for lens protection. Do you think I should remove it when doing these type of shots?

Thanks Dino
