Why is it so grainy other than I am a mile away holding camera with my hand in a big crowd?? But is there anything I could have done to make it better

Subrata --

On flickr-hosted pics like this one, you can click on the photo which takes you to flickr, and then click on More Properties.

Easier if the poster includes EXIF in the post, but at least it is there.

Todd --

As for graininess, your ISO is at 500. That could be it. The only time you want to lift your ISO below its lowest setting (100 likely on your camera) is when you are shooting in low light, or maybe if you are deliberately going for grainy.

Also, I am trying this week to make suggestions to make the Critique my Shot forum more manageable. For a shot where you have a technical question like this one, why not post it in Other Technique Discussion. You'll get the same answer, and won't bump somebody else off the front page of Critique.

Cheers,

EL

Thanks EL, I had no idea about Flickr-more properties earlier.

For the EXIF info of Flickr hosted photos, if you are using FireFox and have the GreaseMonkey extension there is a script called 'Flickr EXIF Decorator' that puts the photos EXIF info into a pop-up layer over the photo when you move the mouse pointer over the image, e.g.:

Image1.jpg

I find this extremely valuable in learning how shots were taken, without having to click on the links at the side.

The button with 'Orig' is created by another greasemonkey script called 'Flickr Original Images' and links to the original image if it is not restricted by copyright, etc.
