That, my pinball friend, is no duck.

Canada goose, Branta canadensis, and I commend you for going so close. They are miserable birds, and can be very aggressive if provoked or hungry. I would rather jump the fence and take that alligator shot that was posted earlier than take on a band of these guys.

I do like the perspective, and how close you are. The feather patterns are very well rendered and interesting. I would like a bit more sharpness in the head/eye -- maybe a smart sharpen localized to the head? Sharpening the whole bird would probably light up all those feather patterns too much.

Honk, honk,

EL

My bad...I know its a goose and is a miserable beast. At the college I went to they terrorized the students as they walked up to the buildings....
I tried sharpening and it did in fact affect the entire shot. I was safe from any harm with this guy. I was up on a bridge looking down on it....on a side note i lmost dropped my camera when one of the other birds did a fly by as i was leaning over the edge! I will give the sharpening of the head a try....
Thanks for the reply!

xxpinballxx,

Stand way back, and it's a darn good graphic, too. You could get really strong results doing your avatar process.

Does it look like there's a little bit of magenta fringing? I can't tell if it's just my glasses . . . where was this? Cleveland Zoo?

JC, that's a great idea. I agree that xxpinballxx should adopt the goose as his avatar.

That is exactly where it was....I was bored and wanted to take some pics. haven't been out for a few days. Funny how out of all the animals there I choose to shoot something I can get anywhere.....

EXIF data shows 28.81 mm as focal length. It was shot at F4.0 1/160.

I would generally say that this shot isn't that great since you're shooting down on the goose, but with they way it's neck is crooked, I like it. As others have mentioned, it lacks sharpness.

Same here at my college campus. There is a flock of them that has been here all summer. They leave "land mines" everywhere and stink up the whole place.
