Default Indiana farm life

I took this photo with my HP camera out of the car window. I liked the clean lines in it but wonder if this is in keeping with the rule of thirds.?

I suppose one could say you are right on the mark with the "rule of thirds" since the photo could be evenly cut horizontally into three fairly equal pieces (sky, barn and foreground.) What is more important is if it pleases you, regardless of the 'rules' that are covered or broken.

I never realised how much there is too learn so i think im going to keep reading the comments everyone gets and maybe go to the library and get out some books. Usually i just take what i think looks good and shoot.

i agree with the rule of thirds, but the left side of the photo is cut too close to the edge of the barn and the sky is uninteresting. i would have rather seen a better sky or more foreground in addition to a wider angle so the entire barn was in the frame.

how would you make the sky more interesting? I took this when it was about to rain so there were no clouds or anything much, just gray sky.

then go back another time when the sky IS interesting. you can't expect to be in the right place at the right time every time. great photos take patience and planning.

I agree, there are times when I go back to take the picture on diferent days. Try a polorized filter.

Default how to find interesting situations

Living here in Indiana i find it hard to get interesting photos. All we seem to have is cornfields. so how do you make them interesting?
We dont have spectacular sunsets or buildings of great interest.
