Nice shot.

There was a "how to" about silhouettes recently. Maybe it would have been a nice technique to use in this situation...

Nice shot. I find myself wondering what it would look like in B&W with more contrast.

Thomas|K, Welcome

In original, the clues given in clothing and hair color are subtle, but make a much more pleasant image. B/W loses that; if you can lighten lower half some, it will help, but still won't have warmth of original. If sun on water were behind person on dock, you'd have the contrast needed for a good B/W.

Your original image is so desaturated that i also thought of BW, though I think JC makes a good point.

If you do want a black and white, i suggest you convert using a different method. It looks like you ended up with a lot of blue channel, which is making your water too dark and also damping down the highlights, all of which is leading to low contrast.

There are other ways to do it, but for me the place to start is channel mixer. I like to decompose the photo, look at the Blue, Green and Red channels to see what works best, and then go into the mixer. For this shot, the Red channel looked best to me, both in sky and water, and it also best captured the highlights on the water and in the hair of your subject. A mix of 80 red to about 20 green looks great, then you can adjust contrast a bit using levels, curves or whatever. If you like I can post an example.

Thanks jiminyClickit and ELAY for your critique, will consider that for the next B&W converts.
Please feel free to post an example image.
