I love waterdrop pictures and you are right about trying to keep it simple. You did a nice job with the shallow DOF which left a nice background blur, but there is a leaf in the front bottom right that got caught and left a distracting blur. When dealing with waterdrops, it's usually best to make sure the focus is on one of them. The reflections and colors in the drop bring life to the shot. It is kind of like taking a picture of a face on the need to focus on the eyes. Here the focus is on the leaf, making the waterdrop secondary.
Nice title, BTW. |

Hi. I am not sure how you shot this, that is in macro mode or with telephoto from a distance. Sometimes the autofocus doesn't quite focus where you want it to. Was this manually focused? I find that if I set the auto focus then rock forward or backward just slightly, it will create a plane of sharpness in a slightly different place. I have to shoot lots of exposeres on a subject like this to get just one 'keeper.' You have done a very nice job here and I agree with Saralonde's comments as well.

Thanks Saralonde, I understand the defect in focus more clearly now. Recently I saw some water droplet photographs, each which are a subject in their own right, with colours of the subject behind. I will definitely try to do practise such subjects.
clockdoc, it was a telephoto (55-200mm) from a distance as I do not possess a macro. I use a Nikon D50, can you please suggest a macro lens. I used the zonal autofocus (4 specific zones around the center), I should have tried the manual. Thanks for the tips.
