epeyton@tampabay,

The rose is a winner, despite the leaf above trying to steal attention from it. Almost losing color in highlights on petals. Very nice transfer of light through to lower petals. Tiny lighted spot on petal bottom center is a real distraction. All simple fixes, if so inclined. 1/2000 of a second. Really?

Thanks I didn't even notice the leaf or the spot. I will fix that. Thank you for your help. 1/2000 is what the data told me. It was very bright when I took this, Florida sun and all.

Sometimes flowers look better when shot on an overcast day. It would be interesting to see the comparison of this or a similar rose under those lighting conditions. When shooting in bright sunlight, you will always have to fight those bright specular highlights and darker shadows. Still it is a very nice shot overall. Thanks for sharing it with us.

epeyton@tampabay,

Thanks for bringing the rose. It's especially colorful now. The little red spot on petal: sometimes I fight with that decision to leave some things because they were there when I shot. Or perhaps they are part of the "charm" of it. Usually, though, if you squint at a photo and things like that spot still draw your attention away from the rose, it's a distraction. Good job.

As clockdoc suggested, different times of day, different looks. Try this rose early morning some day, or backlit, if it's still breathing.
