Default A shot 10 years in the making

Hi all,

Train guy again. I need some input on this shot. it is of a Bessemer and Lake Erie train in Ivywood, PA. I have been trying for 10 years to get a shot of a train at this spot in the right light, but something has always failed me. either the train was going the wrong way, or there was no good light, or i wasnt prepared when i saw him. Friday that all came to an end. But there is one thing that is bothering me. I will explain after the picture.

A shot a long time in the making

It looks like i shot it off angle. But everyone tells me its straight. are my eyes playing tricks on me?

Tom

I agree, the angle looks a bit off, but I'm not sure. It may be an illusion. Have you tried correcting it? I think it's hard to tell because the pole in the middle appears to be straight, but the pole on the right looks like it's leaning to the right, and the train looks like it's leaning a bit to the left. I wonder if it's lens distortion maybe? Or if it's just the way that everything actually leans because of the small hill.

Aside from the angle it looks like you got a good time of day and everything, so congrats on finally getting the shot that you've been waiting so long for.

Edit: Ok, I just had a look at it in Photoshop, and when I used the straighten tool using the middle pole, it was actually off slightly. So, try straightening it using that. At that point only the power line is no longer straight, but the train looks more like it probably should.

napatom2005,

Patience will get you many things. A very cheerful train photo, for instance.

Yes it's tilted to the left. Or the pole on right is vertical, and the house, crossing signal, and train are all leaning to the left. If you rotate for horizontal, that pole might need to be selected and rotated separately.

Hey Train Guy - nice shot! I think the train looks tilted because the track is curved there.

great shot! I think the reason it looks off is the train tracks lok a bit banked.
Like said before you might need to select the pole after straightening and then rotate it seperately. I think one thin I would do is try getting rid of the telephone pole.

Wonderful image! I didn't notice the tilt until you mentioned it, would love to see this in before and after.
