Thumbs up The Angel Oak

This tree is estimated to be at least 1400 years old. It is located on Johns Island, SC (near Charleston).

Wow what a nice tree! I'd probably have zoomed in closer to make the tree fill up the frame more, getting rid of some of the ground.

Thats a very nice tree, watch how the tree looks like in different times of day and check out which times the tree looks most dramatic.
For now I think you should have either moved in closer and made a tighter shot of the tree, or back away a few meters and made the tree a foreground of some sort.
You can also try cropping this one or even trying it in black and white and see what it looks like
My opinion

What a fascinating tree! You could make a wonderful series out of it. Close-ups, b&w, different times of the day, different times of the year, from a high viewpoint and/or a low one...
We vacation in S.C. a lot. Would love to see the Charleston area someday.

Thank you for your comments I do have some different shots of that tree on Flickr and on my puter. I gave some of my shots of the tree and other shots as Christmas Gifts and they were well recieved. In fact, I have ordered more prints requested by family and friends.

I am a beginner photographer and am learning a great deal, I hope to get a full SLR like the Rebel( love the name too) in the future. I want to learn as much as I can with this camera first. And being here in Charleston, were there is so much to take pictures of is great.

Come on down to Charleston, it is great! Kind of pricey, especially in the spring and summer months. But so is most tourist areas.

Becky

Hey Becky
Just visited your Flicker site and I think the photo 'The Angel Oak Of Johns Island, SC' is magnificent!!

I too have an affinity for nature photos - with a particular tree outside our window that goes through interesting colour changes - but I don't think it's been around as long as this one. I can see why your gifts were enthusiastically received.

Hey Becky,

Great catch, but I would caught the day a bit at a darker time or killed the ISO a bit (it looks like it was turned up a bit too much). Again great shot though.

Thank you! I will try the tree at different times to try and get different light! Plus I got a tripod so I will try different manual settings, Hey, might as well, it is close to home and free to get into. It is managed by the City Of Charleston, they have do a great job of caring for the tree and area. Before it was very abused and now is protected. Thanks Again!

Nice photo. I saw some trees like that in Myrtle Beach last year. The kids had a blast playing on it. I took some pics, but they aren't that great quality so I won't post.
