Default Absorbing

I managed to snatch this shot of Tony last weekend, and count myself lucky to have got it! He is notoriously camera shy and can usually smell a photo coming on from 500 paces so I have lots of shots of the back of his head!! Any suggestions about how I might improve this would be most welcome - short of re-shooting obviously!

Penny,

Mostly good things here, not counting the hair which is just hard to keep detail in, I'll bet. A minor rotate-to-the-left would set Tony up a little more (is he preparing to dash?). Then some crop of left and top would put him in a quieter position. Has he ever liked a photograph of himself?

Jim,
Thank you for your usual thoughtful response. The hair gets lighter, finer, and further away from abundant every day - certainly beyond my photographic skills!! Ja, I think the antennae were up and he was preparing for flight! There have been a few shots over the years that he has rated as "not too bad" - high praise from a Yorkshire-man!!

Is this what you had in mind?

Thanks for your input.

I like the edited version I like that there's so much detail in everything around him, particularly in the cropped version. It's a nice contrast to the simplicity of sitting on a park bench.

phlyersphan - Thank you for your observations. I also prefer the cropped version.

Default Burning the hight-lights

I had a quick go at burning the hight-lighted areas such as those of the hair and the ground below the subjects right foot. It was a rush job just to demonstrate that you can correct hight-light issues such as these.

In the days of old (darkroom techniques) we used to dodge and burn all the time, in this Digital age we now rely on software such as Photoshop. Obviously you can get a better job with a higher quality image.

Regards

Terry

Penny, probably the best thing for me to do is write up a quick tutorial. I will work on it tomorrow for you.

Penny,

Like you read my mind, but is it what you had in mind when you thought of photographing the gentleman? Does he look more relaxed?

Penny, before I started to think about writing how I did the dodge and burn I searched and found this great article about how to do these things in PS.

Regards

Terry
