Fill flash!

The light is coming from the upper left somewhere, behind the subjects. As a result, while it's obvious what's going on, the people are maybe a third or halfway to being silhouetted.

If you popped up the flash and had it compensated way down - when I do this kind of thing, I do it manually in manual on my dslr, not sure how to do it normally without picking some backlit portrait mode on the camera - then you would have exposed the scene normally, but lightened up the dark foreground of the subjects.

Since you say flash fill would not work, you'll have to analyze the direction of your light source and reposition yourself for better exposure. Those experienced in Photoshop or similar programs could probably make some improvements as well. Nice action shot!

I think it was a nice catch....I might have had all the girls wearing very tight tanktops (j/k, not really) but other than that it looks like a good shot....i think a coming at ya shot would be nice with a shallow DOF.
