Default Shy

In my early morning aimless wandering in the Himalyan wilderness, before the first sunrays reached the ground, I felt the flowers are still asleep. I was fascinated by the soft light on the shy violet. A F4.5 ISO 400 aperture priority shot at 180 mm (Digital). I increased the contrast in Photoshop to make the background darker.
I will appreciate any critiques' comments on the ptotograph and its post processing.

Thanks,

subrataofkris,

My favorite sort of shot, although a diagonal and more up-facing composition might present the bloom better. Subtle color is good here, and a bud alongside is a help, with a different placement if you try the diagonal. Try for comfort spacing at edges, like top here, more than bottom and right side.

I recently began shooting after 6 AM, when the dew is fresh. A few minutes later, the first rays of Sun hit the blooms and you get a pure color. Good shot, hope you post others. Enjoy the morning.

Hi Subrata,

Beautiful moment, lovely picture.

The crumpled texture of the petals here is very nice, and I found myself feeling a bit cheated that the petals in the foreground were out of focus. You said that you were shooting early morning, so I'm thinking that you had to open up the aperture to get enough light. Maybe some shots looking down on the flower face on, so that all the petals are in your field might have done it.

Cheers, and thanks for posting,

EL

Hello jiminyClickit,
I did a bit of post processing and the result looks better. Thanks for your help.

Hello ELAY,

Thanks for your observations, I will keep them in mind and lower my ISO so that I can get more DOF.

Regards,

Default Oops!

Dear ELAY,
Oops! that was a typo, it should read raising the ISO. Sorry for that. I meant I would raise my ISO to say 800 or 1600 (that's the max. I can get in D50) to play with my aperture (make it smaller) with the same shutter speed.
Thanks,

subrataofkris, You're welcome

Plants and other natural things seem to look better angled some way.

I may not have described the crop well above at #2: the space at the top of your original is good, the side and bottom are too close. So the second one above is too close side and bottom. The black background is great for moving your bloom around, so have a look at many different positions. Imagine that bell and stem of this bloom showed, and allow space for them. Or you can crop close, clipping petals some.

subrataofkris,

Short of 1000 words, this is a view I imagined:

Thanks JC,

The two 2 buds definitely look interesting (and different by flipping) and the composition looks spot-on, Thanks again for the help.
