Default Another Lake Superior Shot

I tried some settings when I was playing around with picasa, and I really like the effect I got.

I like this to-the colours are very good. But i do find the blurring of the objects around the light house-thing to be a little distracting.

Nice spooky atmosphere you captured in this picture.
I do agree with stevesutt89. It looks a bit "fake" to me. Maybe if you had created the blurring effect with the aperture it looked more "natural".
I also would have tried to capture the whole reflection in the water and thereby lose a little piece of sky.

I kind of like it. The blurring made me think of mist around the building. What did you use in Picasa?

Nice photo, nice work in post-processing. The ship balances the pier very nicely sort of creating a receding diagonal through the frame. I think the blurring matches your overcast misty sunrise (set?) mood. Colours are very warm and set off the building/ship/pier nicely.

I think it would look great in a nice dark frame.

thanks for the critiques everyone, and when I put the effect on in picasa I thought that it emphasized the lighthouse thing a lot. I don't know, it does look kinda unnatural, but I like it. And Saralonde I used soft focus and a combo of warmify and saturation.

Really really cool! I love it! I think you got the effect perfectly and created a very subdued and ghostly mood. Also feels antiqued.

A couple of suggestions:
-I feel like there might be too much sky. Something seems off-balance with the crop and I think it might be due to the lighthouse's reflection touching the bottom of the frame, while nothing is touching the top (and anywhere near for that matter).
-If you really want to make it feel 'antiqued' then you could clone out the street lamp. But that's just me...I've been in a 'cloning out' mood lately.

Thanks for sharing this great shot! I'm inspired...I lived on Lake Michigan most of my life and your shot really brings me back.

Something about the shot is very captivating; maybe it's the atmosphere or the dead central positioning of the subject and then again, something doesn't feel right with the composition and I can't put my finger on it. But, it succeeds in keeping the viewer's attention. Nice job.
