Default quiet moment

quiet moment

Do you think the man in the background should be lightened. i just happened to see the groom standing in this thoughtful moment and raced to take the photo.

This is an interesting shot for sure. I agree with your thought about the dark guy in the background. He needs to be better lit. As this is not the case, it's best to crop him out of there so viewers don't miss your theme by looking too much at the dark guy.

Congrats Lori on getting a nice shot of the groom. He does indeed look thoughtful. However, the red light line cuts through his head. In other words it's a huge distraction all the more because it's the brightest item in the picture.

In the spur of the moment, when we work fast to capture a fleeting moment we don't always have time to check for these things. You may be able to clone out the light line in photoshop. It's worth a try and keep shooting those fleeting moments, they're precious indeed.

I liked the guy in the back to be a little darker because i feel hes hiding watching the groom and probably wondering what hes thinking, but i agree on the red line..do you think this is better now and thankyou for the comments. The lighting in the reception hall was very yellow and hard to work with as im a beginner. Also took the next photo which i thought was so cute.

I think you saw an image in your mind's eye that was difficult to record in reality. However, be pleased that you have the creative ability to conceive such composition and to see it when it happens. It was just that the environment wasn't with you inthe reception hall. The shot of the groom and the child is very good. Nice tonal range, sharpness and color. A real keeper!

The picture with the child smelling the flower. I think that that would be a GREAT b/w photograph.

I think the problem with the guy in the background is that his tuxedo is light (drawing attention) but his face is shaded (the headless man!). I know you can see the face if you look but it is disconcerting on first glance, which is normally a bad thing.

Possible solutions are cropping or cloning him out of the picture (make it all about the groom); lightening his face and hands a bit so his features are more visible; darkening the jacket so that it doesn't stand out so much. Part of that depends on who he is - if it is the best man, then there is probably more reason to keep him in shot than if he was a distant relative who just happened to be in shot.
