Default Red Portrait

I defiantly think portraits are my thing. Not cos i shoot portraits well cos thats what i enjoy the most. This is a shot of my friend at a bar in london (loving the nifty fifty more each day) no photoshop except for the resizing.

Just love the contrast

Sam

Thank you. The magic lies in lens - the 50mm f1.8.

Awesome! Such a mood the red color creates...and it's almost refreshing to know that post processing did not achieve that effect......love the subject's expression and yes, the contrast is sublime.

It's great that you can identify an aspect of photography as 'your thing' because you enjoy it the most! Keep it up! You do it well too!

That's a really great portrait, and such a striking color.

My only real critique... I think it's a little disconcerting that the subject is off to the left, however. To me, it seems like you wanted to keep the sideways L-shape of the window in the background, but that puts the subject off to the left.

I have no idea what camera you have, but I have a Pentax K100D and a 50mm f/1.4 lens and it's awesome for portraits. (I think it's about 80mm on my camera.. it's not a properly-calibrated lens for a digital camera.) Simply standing a comfortable distance from someone and holding up the camera gives you a natural 'portrait' sort of composition. Of course, if someone has a long nose and you're wide open, the nose gets out of focus....

Really nice one!
Too bad you didn't had a completely white background, but that's just a small thing.

Great picture!

I like the pose captured, especially the glint in the bedroom eyes. The choice of red is enlightened as it has so many bar connotations - illicit, edgy, neon lights etc. Great atmosphere!

The red is VERY unique, love the style. I am amazed you had that light looking so good, great shot and love the sharpness.

Great work, keep it up looking forward to more of your shots.
