Default Fenced In

So here is my first attempt at an artsy-looking black and white photo. I like the patterns with the fence and find that it draws your eyes right across the image. I also find that the the focus on the second picket and the screw in it is contrasted by the first out-of-focus picket with 2 screws in it.

Hey Don!... I'm quite partial to a good wooden fence (the farmer in me) I like how you've pulled out the odds / evens with the two screws and then the one, too... I wonder what this shot would look like cropped a bit more squarely? so that the fence top is the top of the image... maybe it'd lose some dynamic... worth a shot maybe?.. nice fence mate, and, love your signature

Hmm, interesting idea. These are the results that I've fiddled with. I really like how the lines on the pickets are perpendicular to that on the top piece of wood (whatever the technical fence-ish term is).

Changes the dynamic a bit... what dost thou thinkest?

Hi. I see from the EXIF data that this was shot at f/9 but that doesn't help too much as we don't know the lens you were using and how far you were from the subject. IMHO, soft focus items in the foreground to be more distracting than helpful. If your intent was to have only the second board sharp then you have achieved your goal as it is 'tack sharp.' You have a good eye for the abstract!
