Default Kitty In The Sun

My bf's kitty laying on the floor soaking up the sun. It's my first time posting in this subforum, so be gentle.

The specs of the photo (from its properties):
Shutter speed: 1/202 sec.
Aperture: F/8
Focal length: 6 mm
F-number: f/8
Exposure: 1/200 sec
Metering mode: pattern
Exposure compensation: -1 step

(I'm still learning the mechanics and technispeak of these terms and to tell you the truth, the picture that I took was mostly "by ear".)

Nice kitty. I would have liked to see more of his fur but the problem there is that it might overexpose the white part. If you have metering on your camera i would suggest going on spot metering and focussing on the darker side of kitty. Then slow your shutter down to about 1/50 or even less. That should prevent overexposure of the white part while still giving you a good exposure overall to see more of kitty. (Unless of course you wanted it to be this way where kitty and shadow blends together.) Another way would be to underexpose with a faster shutter speed (or bigger f-number) and using the flash at the same time. Any any case this is a tricky set up to get good exposure.

Play around with your metering mode and have fun.

Pedro

Thanks Pedro! When I get kitty in sleep mode, I'm definately going to try the metering stuff... time to retreat back to the manual.
