Default My First Attempt At Macro

Visiting my parents is nice because I get to play with my dad's Canon Rebel digital SLR, which is much nicer than my point and shoot. I decided to have some fun going outside and seeing what I could take pictures of.

These roses were hiding at the side of the house, and have sure seen better days. I thought they were still pretty though. I've never tried anything this close up, and don't really know what I'm doing. Any thoughts would be fantastic.

Interesting view of flowers at the end of their life. Your composition choice - a grouping of 3 - works well. DOF is pretty good, too. What lens and settings did you use on the Rebel?

I used a 400 ISO and changed the white-balance to the shade setting. The lens is just the one that came with the camera. In all honesty, I don't really know how to change many settings besides the ones I have on my point and shoot, although I'm getting better at manual focusing. Thanks for your comments!

Not bad for a first attempt at a macro with a camera you were not familiar with. Read the owner's manual about the macro mode and how you can use the different focal lengths at different distances while still inthe macro mode. Your background turned out nice here as well.

Thank you, clockdoc! I definitely need to read through the manual, especially since I'm thinking about getting the same DSLR for myself pretty soon.
