angeleyes216,

You got the hardest part, the eyes, and the skin highlights, both very well done. Not as sure about the crop; as clockdoc points out, incomplete fingers/hands are a questionable choice (like, all or nothing). Tilt of head is good, placement of fruit, again raises the question of showing more face, moving hand with fruit down to side of chin, going to a portrait orientation.

Default hard to pose

By the time i took the photo she was getting rather hyper, if you know what i mean.* she's 5 yrs old) lol. She was getting a kick out of the continous mode on the camera so it wasnt really a posed photo as such, but i love her eyes.
I am enjoying this site so much and all of the comments are so helpful and have taught me so much in a very short time. Thankyou

I have hung around here long enough to be able to critique my own photos a bit (if I had shot this photo, I would have chided myself afterwards for not getting the whole fruit/hand).

I will be happy when (if?) I get to the point where I can apply all of this stuff in advance from the time when I pick up my camera, and remember to make sure that I don't cut off any appendages or anything (along with ensuring that I am not still on manual, checking white balance, setting the aperture I want, making sure I don't have any leftover exposure compensation settings, double-checking the ISO, getting the focus right, and so on).

Kids are tough subjects -- by the time you do a test shot and adjust, they are usually long gone.

angeleyes216,

You're welcome, anytime. January of this year to now has brought most of everything I know about photography. Before that was 50+ years of trying to do portraits in pencil, then pastel chalks. So to be able to click and see a finished perfect face is a joy for me, too. We have a diverse group, so any other help we can give, let us know. And enjoy the process!

I have to say im so impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of everyone. My family are all in Australia, so photos have become very important to me and i enjoy taking photos for my friends and i do have to say i feel pride in having taught myself to this point.

angeleyes216,

Photos can bridge some of that distance, certainly your family will appreciate (without Critique!) any photos. I'm familiar with your current home. Do you know of Terre Haute, or Clinton, or Dana? Those were at various times my hometowns. Miss them all. Hope you're enjoying the Midwest!
