Default Savage Beauty.

This is a shot that I'm not quite happy with but can't put my finger on why, any ideas?

John, what a great capture!!! Wow!

It's pretty excellent as is, but there's something not quite clicking on the left side. What is the whitish object on the very front of the board in front of the second owl? Not sure whether that would make much of a difference, but it's distracting my eye a bit.

Another thought is to consider cloning out the second owl (and whitish spot) altogether from the left side, but leave the composition as is. I think it's very cool to have two owls in the same shot, but it might be detracting from the very excellent primary subject.

My two bits, FWIW. I'm really amazed by this shot, all the way around.

That is a wonderful capture indeed! Wonderful that there are two owls there but since the second one is really in shadows, maybe a different crop, portrait perhaps might work??? That way the focus is all on the main subject?
Just MHO. Congrats on the great capture!

Thanks for your comments,

@Dazyl - You might be right about the other owl and that white bit, I'll give that a try. Thank you.

@YoAshnish - Thanks for your compliments and constructive thoughts, I am willing to lose the second owl as there are in fact three and I got another shot or two of them. I'll post another that I quite like.

Barn Owls feeding

Guess what that white thing was now Dazyl, lol.

Thanks again,

John.

I like the first shot - the slight 'non-perfect' composition gives it an uneasy feel, which kinda works for the subject matter. I would just clone in a bit more black at the bottom of the image for some breathing space. Beautiful owls - nice work

Thank you all for your thoughts,

YoAshnish, although these birds are wild they are at a local wildlife rescue centre near where I live. They are in a huge enclosure and taking photographs isnt that easy through the mesh and the birds stay quite a long way back from the viewing area. Fortunately the people who own and run the place allowed me access to the enclosure and I got a few shots.

Tried to take in all advice and came up with this, how does this look without the other bird and more black at the bottom?

Just a chick I picked up !

Also renamed it "Just a chick I picked up !".

Bottom line, of course, is how you feel about it after the changes.... but that's exactly what I had in mind when I responded initially.

I like it, personally. A lot.
