chanedcomm,
Since the sky has nothing to add to shot, and people are what makes a place appear busy, a lower angle with more heads and bodies (back up some?) may give more emphasis. A sunnier day could liven up the overall look. Good idea; think about your viewer.

I much prefer the second shot. It appears more spacious and sharper than the first (and also without the distracting out of focus white area in the bottom left). Even the colours look better. I think it may need a small adjustment to the alignment either horizontally from the roof of the subway entrance or vertically from the buildings on the right.
G PS I remember my short time in Tokyo, talk about culture shock! The streets don't even have names

Thanks for the comments. I think I like some aspects of each of them.... For example, I like the way how the station name is shown at the corner of the first one but I agree that more 'heads' being shown looks better so I like the 2nd one from that perspective. I wish I could combine them.

It will be a bit more challenging, but if you would like to show the crowd, you should be above the crowd.
I think your second photo is better than the first one because you can see more people. When you climb on something and try the same shot will show you even more of the crowd. Plus it makes the people look more tiny against the big buildings because of the "bird perspective".
