Nice work! As you said, the VR capability of the lens really paid off here (and not just because you were at 300mm) 8-) You have captured a shot that few of us will ever have the opportunity to dupliacte (not that many of us would want to be that close to a momma bear and her cubs. Glad you stayed safe throughout the shoot. I am sure this memory will stay with you a long time. Thanks for sharing your photo and description of the setting with us.

Excellent. It is so nice to see pictures of animals in their natural setting.
I know what you mean about being scared. I recently had a Black Bear in my backyard while I was sitting on my deck. I didn't have my camera and I just froze until she/he was out of sight. Then I ran in, grabbed my camera and ran out the front. I got a few shots but the bear was on the move and they move fast.
Great job!

Wow, great luck there. Not perfect, but close to it. Good job keeping your wits about you.

Default Bears

I know just how you feel. We actually have bears walking thru our front yard quite frequently but it never stops amazing me. You are very lucky to have gottena shot like that. Congratulations

uvsub,

Best part of a shot like this is living to tell about. Photo and text are choice material, title especially fooled me.

I concur with clockdoc, wow, nice... very nice. This is one for hanging.
I would like a bit more saturation in the grass, however it is nice at current state. But even with that... wow.
Good job and keep shooting.

I'm impressed, not just because you lived through encountering a momma bear with cubs (!!!), but because you had the guts to stay and take a couple shots, and that you actually got a good shot! I like it! It would've been nice if you got both cubs in the shot, but I these things aren't really up to the photographer, are they?
