the only flaw i would say is the darkness. Brighten it up some more and it should look great.

Cute shot! You got nice and close and have a nice dof. It does look dark, but that's a a pretty easy fix. Did you save your settings after you used Paintshop?

Default Nice

The second one is much better. This is an adorable shot. I like the lighting, the DOF, and the composition. The girl is pretty cute as well.

I would be tempted to lose a little bit off the right of the picture, while still keeping the detail of the hair.

With the face cropped so tight at top and bottom it seems odd to have so much room on either side, especially towards the back of the head. At the moment, the balance of his features is towards the left hand side of the image; a small crop on the right would put the features nearer the centre and give "breathing space" on the left to balance the hair and ear to the right.

Nice soft skin tones. I would maybe sharpen the eyes just a little too.

Agreed that the second version is better with regards to brightness.

Was this shot in jpg? If so, do you remember what your sharpeness setting was. There's just a tiny little bit of aliasing creeping in on the left side of the face. Ditto what wulf said about the centralized composition, good opportunity to apply a rule of thirds approach, the eyes are roughly on the line that would give you the top third of the frame, cropping frame right would put one eye nicely on the other line dividing the frame vertically.

Good picture; nice sharp eyes.
Only the his chin in the lower left corner of the picture looks a littlebit strange.
Maybe because you resized it.

Im also curious how this one looks in color. The black eyes make the picture al little dark.
