Default Fireworks

Hey everyone,
I'm new to DPS and decided to get into the flow of things by uploading a picture to be critiqued. This picture was taking at a 4th of july event in my hometown with a canon powershot s3 is with a 2" shutter and f/8. Any comments or help will be appreciated.

c'n'b, welcome.

I agree. There is too much blank space in the picture. Not bad, though!

Hey c'n'b,

I think the shot is too empty, you should either crop it around the fireworks or next time, consider zooming in a little or framing it differently, maybe with a city skyline in the background, or some silhouettes? I don't know, that's just what I would do

Yeah it would have been great to get a city skyline shot, but the problem is that this city doesn't have a skyline . Yeah it's one of those places. Cropping sounds good, and I should have zoomed in a bit more on the photo. Thanks for the help

there is a next time.
If you could get fireworks with a skyline, wonderful. If not, zoom in.
When taking a shot like this, what are you wanting to say? What emotion are you wanting to stir when someone looks at it?

That may help the next time you go to get that suberb firework shot.

The "spirit of the fair" shot took a couple of years to get and around 50 shots to get the one.

Keep going. You are on the right path.
