Default Poster Help

I am making a 12x18 poster for my son and am thinking about doing more for the rest of his team - $10 at Wal-Mart, rather than the $40 someone wanted shooting pics at his games......let me know what you think about the composition of anything you see on the poster, or on the pics within...thanks...Tony

TW1NS, Welcome

That looks pretty good, very active poses and good lighting. From the composition standpoint, the two small pictures at bottom might stick out less in another position, but I haven't tried a solution. Outlining all the photos entirely with a thin white edge would help them stand out. It's great to see you have each photo facing in, or forward. Small detail, keeps focus within poster. I think the guys would be proud to have these. Well done.

jiminy...those two pics you mentioned were the ones I struggled with the most...whether to leave them on or just remove them...but then I figured that on a 12X18 they would be plenty big...I messed with the outline you mentioned but ended up outlining the group because I thought the white was more intrusive on the pics...the logo actually turned out pretty good considering I scanned it off of a t-shirt...do you have any specific sites you use to print larger scales pics such as this?

TW1NS,

For the age group, the photo arragement will be of no consequence, they'll be thrilled to have their likeness on a wall! If you like to experiment and have "DropShadow" on your edit program, that might be less intrusive.

You must have a really good scanner, that looks great. I do most everything with a Canon printer, so experience with online or other companies is nil. I've read good things about mpix.com here on DPS. Others may suggest a particular poster printing company. Again, very nice work.

I think you did a great job in composing this poster. As others mentioned, you took care to arrange the motion of the photos to keep the viewer's eyes within the frame. Excellent work on the logo as well. I know how much work goes into making one of these from the selection of the images to transfer to the composite. You should be very proud of this one. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks for the replies...I might try some drop shadowing as Jiminy suggested...I composed it using Photoshop...you cant tell on the small pic but the background has a checked texture...tried to find some mesh, as a jersey, but was all I could come up with...I checked out mpix.com and like the fact that they have matte finishes available, now am a little worried that my WalMart.com one I ordered will be glossy - I hope not! Prices were comparable besides the fact that I don't pay shipping when i pick it up at my local store...thanks again

TW1NS,

Anytime. Added thoughts: does PS have a texture named "Crackle?" That would be close to a jersey look. And if print is too glossy, art store spray fixative will give a matte finish.

Looks good to me. I agree with the comments above. In particular the thing that jumped out at me was the need to continue that white border around the pics to help them stand out....but then Jiminy already said that

that's a cool idea for your kid..

I would suggest, though, maybe blurring the edges of the photos to make them look more seamless. Also, in the shot of him throwing the ball on the bottom of the poster, the fence is distracting and makes it look like it's part of the white-line border.

I like the idea of blurring the edges...still not sold on the white border...plus I havent had time to mess with it any more, to see if it warrants it...
I see what you mean about the fence almost acting like a border, the other thing that bugged me was the way the drop shadow of the logo cuts off the white border on two pics - makes it look like a mistake...
WalMart just called and my poster is in - only took a day rather than the 10 days they told me online...will let you know how it turned out...
thanks for the tips...
