well for starters.... i think you need some kind of background... the rest of the pic is completly black...
also .. i think there should be some more light so you can see the hair..
IMO...

In my opinion, you should have framed it from a little distance. As you are using p&s, you will not have the option of bouncing the flash from roof. Presently, it makes the skin tone a bit harsh.

i think the cam used was a nikon D40 ... (from the EXIF info)

Yes, my cam is nikon D40, this shoot is an "occasionaly" shoot the subject was turn her head and i take the photo..

Onboard flash will not bring out the best modeling of the subject's facial features as it tends to flatten the face as well as putting shadown where you may not want them. I realize this was more of a "grab" shot and not a posed portrait but placing the subject closer to a light wall or background will help with separation. I am not sure why the left eye is so much darker but you are losing the catchlight there as it is blending with her eyelashes. Lastly, closer cropping to get rid of some of the dark background will help the composition.
