What an intense gaze! I think the background works well however you may want to try darkening it a bit and cloning the color out of the part just above the bird to better match the rest of the background as my eye wants to travel there. Otherwise a very nice shot!

If you can create a mask to separate the bird from the background, you can then experiment with applying different adjustments to each - for example, perhaps increasing brightness and contrast on the bird (using the curves tool for control) while making the background a little darker (and, as Lee notes, perhaps reducing the hints of colour).
