Default Diagonal Glow

I've been experimenting with abstract/minimalist* sort of photography and i came up with this shot of the two extendable arms of a desk lamp. The original poto had a dark brown, noisy background which i didn't like (the original cam be found here. So i just rendered this section of the image white in the gimp and came up with this:

What do you guys think (of both the photo in general and the editing)?

*i don't know what the real names for this sort of style of photgraphy is, but i thought abstract and minimalist fitted well

Its definitely a cool technique/way to shoot things. I have no idea what you would call it but abstract sounds good to me. Out of the 2 shots, I like your original better. Maybe its just personal preference but I like how the ends of the rods appear to blend with the background while the middles tend to bounce out at you in a different colour/tone. With the white background, it seems really bright and almost unnatural. Both shots have different effects so I suppose it's up to preference. Keep up the good work.

I like it. I'd also call it minimalist and abstract. I prefer the white background to the original because it really makes the lamp piece stand out. I just prefer the brightness of the edited shot. I think the minimalist approach works very well on this subject.

Yeah, a bit of one. I actually shot this at exactly the same time as i was taking the piano keys shots. This was the lamp i used to illuminate the in-focus area of the piano, all i did was rotate the tripod, change the angle slightly and shoot away

I like very much. Simple.
Not blown out, not under exposed. Nice.
Seems like there should be a commercial somewhere on the shot.
Good work.

I really like the colors in this, and the lack of shadows on the subject really makes it unique.

It looks more like a piece of graphic art than a photograph but that does not detract from the resulting image. It is a technique that would definitely be worth exploring for working up a short series.
