Default Watson Lake

well here goes I went to the lake today to practice with my new D-80 I really like the way this one came out. there was some post processing done curves and saturation.

Be kind to me in a newbie

there were many photos that looked good on my camera that were crap once I put them on the computer. there was a lot of "noise" if thats what its called. it wasn't blurry or out of focus. just very pixelated so to speak. I have lots to learn

I absolutely love this picture, except for the murky water but if it was like a beach blue or something then it would be perfect to me.

yeah the water around the edges of the lake was really ugly looking, but in the middle it was a deep blue.

here is another photo that I have taken a liking to.
I cropped some sky from the top and green stuff in the foreground and ended up with this picture.

I like the second picture better. Everything just 'sits nicely' together composition wise. The first photo was great too but the murky water was a bit too distracting. Good job and thanks for sharing.

If you're new to using your camera, do you know if you're letting the camera pick the ISO? I don't know how familiar you are with the settings, but if you'd like to read more about how different ISOs affect your picture, you can read about it on the DPS blog (forgive me if you think I'm insulting you by posting this link).

I've got to say that I really like your second picture. You'd never guess that the water was murky. I also like the composition and the way that you've cropped it. It looks very nice.

I like both your shots which appear sharp throughout. the first for the way it pulls you in and the second for a multitude of soft curves, complimented by the horizon and beautiful sky. Great subject and great captures. I would personally be tempted to crop the right side of the first shot, maybe upto that dry yellow grass (or whatever it is) to pull your entry between the rocks across to the right third. Those lovely lines on the left can then lead you through.

Nicole thank you for that link its exactly what I was looking see I have the big manual which I NEED to read, but I just can't see to stop and read it. I have more fun playing with the camera. I will learn it soon

thank you
Edit: turns out I had my ISO set at 1600

I think the colours in this shot have been enhanced a little too much. The rocks on the left look ridiculously orange, but maybe thats how they really are? Other than that, I like the composition, but I would crop the bottom grass out. As it is, the image is really busy, so taking out the grass would settle it down a bit. Try it and see what you (and others) think.
