Okay that confused me. Can you edit the title of this thread to slightly different than the first?

Ok, for me, this is clearly better than the the run that you have lately posted. You have a subject(s) of almost universal interest: nature, water, ducks, boating, and maybe fishing. Something there for everyone. On the other hand, there is not a really clear focal point for the image, so we are left with pretty scene. The result, I think, is better than the average snapshot, but falls short of the living room wall.

I wish I could tell you why as precisely as some of the other folks, but you will have to content with just my opinion

rlarsen,

You could photograph a charging grizzly bear in the woods, and someone will say, "Nice shot, except for that bear spoiling the view." Sometimes all I can say is just shoot what interests you in an interesting way, learn as much as you need, and take our comments as what we believe we might have done if we were behind your camera. Enjoy the process, most of all.

although the view is magnificent, I agree with Farkled that the picture lacks a focal point - the reason you made the picture and why everyone should look it. I would have probably framed it vertically so that the fisherman with the waves of his boat would have been the meaningful centre of the picture.

Thanks, Jiminy, good point, my wife loves your analogy, she is still laughing.

Default nice setting

I like the setting alot. Those clouds are beautiful and they might have figured more prominently in the upper 2/3 rds of the image. However, this is a personal preference sorta thing. The red item in the water is a very strong focal point, but not being able to distinguish what it is, was frustrating.

(P.S. Jiminy, I did shoot a grizzily in the woods; scared the crap out of me!)

The photo looks a little... blah to me. Like a simple photo. Colors could be better, and what i would do is saturate the sky a bit and saturate the mountains and see if you like the results.

rlarsen,

Thanks to your wife; I used to read Mark Twain, it sounds like something he might have said.

uvsub,

With a camera? Was he in focus?
